I hung the picture that my in-laws had made for me...Declan drawn in the arms of the Savior. As we went to breakfast this morning I asked Emmy who it was. She joyfully called out, "Jesus and Deck-an!" I couldn't help but smile as I continued down the stairs.
This morning Emmy wrapped her little arms around me tightly and declared, "I'm so glad your home, Mommy." She went on to say she was glad, "Byce was home too." I held her in my arms and told her I was glad to be home and I was very glad Bryce was home as well. My thoughts turned to Declan and thought of the day when he might say that very same thing, "I'm glad your home, Mom."

My grandpa's health is not doing well. He has had cancer and been treated with surgeries and Chemo. He has been taken off of everything and now we wait until he returns to his heavenly home. My heart breaks to think of my grandpa not being here with us anymore. More than that my heart breaks for my grandma who has known my grandpa since they were in kindergarten. But I have also thought of the reunion between my grandpa and his son that passed many years ago. I'm sure Toby will say to my grandpa, "I'm glad your home, Dad."

We are blessed to have the people in our lives that we do. As much as it hurts when those we love pass on and leave us behind, we are blessed to have had them when we did - even when it is much too short. I have been spoiled having all my grandparents. Christian only has one living grandparent. But selfishly I wanted my children to know my grandparents much longer. Both my parents are the oldest children and I am the second oldest in my family so my grandparents are pretty young for me approaching 30. Up until now I have had it easy not having to say goodbye to anyone - not even grandparents (until Declan). But I am truly grateful to have had my grandpa this long. We named Declan Richard Daniel because Richard is my grandpa's first name and Christian's older brother is Daniel.
